Our journey through rare materials brings us to Nereide Opale.
Our research into materials is driven by the desire to understand how they can define the identity of a watch. Over the years, this journey led us to explore uncommon mineral surfaces, culminating in lab-grown opal, one of the most appreciated gemstones in watchmaking.
Opal is valued for its unique interaction with light. Its surface has no fixed colour or pattern: reflections shift with every angle, movement, and condition, creating a constantly evolving visual experience. Each dial is inherently unique, revealing new balances of tone at every glance.
Working with opal requires precision and sensitivity. After the initial cut, the stone is gradually brought to the required thickness through a careful, step-by-step process, where even minimal variations in pressure can affect the material. The lab-grown process allows for deeper, more uniform surfaces, while preserving brilliance, depth, and the individuality of each piece.
The project is built around a deliberately essential and monochromatic setup: a 316L stainless steel case, the Sansovino bracelet, and a tungsten bezel insert, all in silver tones. A neutral, rigorous configuration designed to let the opal dial stand out and to amplify its reflections, depth, and chromatic variations.
Through the sapphire exhibition caseback, the Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement is visible, completed by our signature skeletonized rotor with radial Côtes de Genève finishing.
